Michael Kowal is an accomplished Senior Executive and Financial Advisor with nearly 20 years of success spanning financial planning, marketing, finance, banking, mortgage and insurance. His broad areas of experience include portfolio design, 401k plan design & management, personal financial planning, debt organization, and funding.
Throughout his executive career, Michael has held leadership positions with Applied Asset Management, My Medicare Network, National City Mortgage, and Allied Home Mortgage Capital Corporation. He is currently a Financial Advisor and President of Applied Asset Management & My Medicare Network. For the past 15 years, Michael has enjoyed assisting individuals and businesses with holistic financial planning and retirement plan monitoring. Michael holds the Pension Plan Consultant (PPC) designation which demonstrates his knowledge of ERISA requirements for employer-sponsored retirement plans and demonstrates the ability to carry out plan services with a fiduciary standard of care.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Miami University. A seasoned board member, he has recently served on the Lorain County Board of Realtors and is a former member of the Northcoast BIA, the North Ridgeville Chamber of Commerce, the Mortgage Bankers Association, and the National Association of Home Builders.
Derek Thomas is an experienced sales consultant with over 15 years in business development, consultative selling, and working with business-to-business (B2B)/business-to-consumer (B2C) clients. Over the years, Derek has consistently expanded his territories through agent recruitment, strategic marketing plans, and customer service initiatives. Over the course of his career, he has been consistently recognized as a top performing manager and sales professional. Most importantly, Derek enjoys the interactions with his clients and agents on a daily basis.
Derek joined Applied Asset Management in 2019 as a Managing Partner of our Medicare division, My Medicare Network. With his deep understanding of insurance markets, he is able to guide his clients to appropriate medical insurance policies. When he isn’t working, Derek can be found on the sidelines cheering for his children at their various sporting events and spending time with his wife.
Katie Variglotti graduated with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Finance from Miami University in Ohio. Katie started her sales career with Newell Rubbermaid in Tennessee. It was here began collaborating with key decision makers to increase sales while offering creative merchandising solutions for her customers.
In 2001, she relocated overseas to Japan for two years with her husband who was a naval officer. Katie worked as an Account Manager at the various naval bases. Katie enjoyed experiencing the local culture and traveling throughout Japan.
For the next 8 years, Katie worked in healthcare as a pharmaceutical sales representative. She was a top performer in her company, finishing in the top 10% of sales.
Katie joined the Applied Asset Management team in January 2020. She assists the sales team with building client relationships as well as providing customer assistance. Katie liaisons with the contracting departments of insurance carriers as well as problem solves issues for customers, agents and clients alike!
